How estimates are built

A plain-language guide to the RareDrop AI market engine. This page explains the method; live card data remains on listings and boards.

Market data

About our market data

Every price on RareDrop.ai is computed by the RareDrop AI market engine — a proprietary algorithm that reads verified sales across multiple platforms and blends them into one transparent number.

One algorithm, every venue

The collectibles market is fragmented. The same card trades on global marketplaces, auction houses, partner data feeds and the open web — often at very different prices. The RareDrop AI market engine reads across all of them, normalizes the results by grade, print and condition, and publishes a single blended read on every product page.

That blend — not any single venue — is what you see as the market guide average, the last verified sale, and the live listings average on each listing.

Settled sales only

Our engine only counts money that actually changed hands. Asking prices, wish lists and guide values never become a "last sold" figure.

Outliers removed

Auctions with obvious damage, shill bidding patterns, or low-trust sellers are dropped before the average is computed.

Grade- and print-matched

A comp is only valid for the exact card, set, print and grade. A 9.8 sale never prices a raw copy, and an alt-art never prices a base print.

Refreshed daily

The engine re-scans the market every night and every listing page can pull a fresh read on demand.

Why we don't name our sources

The engine's edge is which feeds it reads, how it weights them, and how it rejects bad data. That recipe is a trade secret, so we don't publish source names or link out to individual venues — on listing pages, in charts, or anywhere else on the site.

What we publish instead is the part that matters to you: the numbers themselves. Every listing shows its comp trail — how many sales, the range, the date — so you can check our work against your own research before you buy. If you find a lower recent verified sale, you can make an offer straight from the product page.

When no comp exists yet

Some cards are so rare that no verified sale has been published. In that case the engine produces a market analysis — a value band clearly marked with an asterisk and labelled "analysis under review" until a real sale confirms it. An analysis is never presented as a sold price.

For sellers

Members listing on the marketplace get the same engine on their own inventory: market guide, last verified sale, live listings average and RareScore™ on every card in the dashboard — so you can price to move without guessing. See membership plans.

Market data is for reference. The final checkout price is always the listed price, and every order is covered by our Authenticity Protection guarantee.
